Welcome to All Human Life

The purpose of All Human Life is to offer to anyone, anywhere around the world, the opportunity to create and store on the All Human Life web-site, IN PERPETUITY, a record of their life which is as brief or as detailed as they wish, illustrated if required with photos, videos, or sound recordings.

In the far off future, your great-great-grandchildren will then be able to access this record to get to know you and understand the kind of life that you lived and the kind of world you lived in. Imagine today being able to find on the internet the words of your own great-great-grandfather, addressed to you, describing his life. All Human Life is creating the family history of the future, but in far greater and more personal detail than is available today for all but the descendants of the truly famous.

You can also create a life record for a relative who has already died, or leave the results of any genealogical research you have already undertaken so that your descendants don't have to do the work again!

How it works

1. Go to 'free registration'. Fill in your name and email address and choose a password. You are now a member of All Human Life and a participant in the All Human Life project.

2. Either immediately, or at any convenient time in the future and as often as you like, go to the site home page, enter your email address and password, and start building or continue editing the record of your life.
To help overcome any writer's block, All Human Life is not simply a blank sheet to be filled in, but is arranged under different chapter headings ('Birth', 'Childhood Family', 'School', 'Employment' etc). Each chapter contains both space for answers to factual questions - where you were born, the names of your siblings, the schools you attended and the dates etc. – and for free text.
You can write as much or as little as you like at a sitting, save what you've written, and come back as often as you like to add more or to modify what you've written.

3. You can also attach photos, documents, sound recordings or videos (How do I transform old photos, old documents, sound recordings, videos, into a form which I can store on All Human Life?) though there is a small charge for this facility (What does it cost?).

4. The primary purpose of All Human Life is for people to leave a record of their life for their descendants. Most people will probably only want the record publicly available after their death. However, it's entirely up to you - when you start creating your record, you can specify the date of availability and you can alter it at any time.

What does it cost?

The creation and storage in perpetuity of the record of your life on All Human Life is absolutely free if you leave only a text record. There is no limit on the amount of text you can write.

If you wish to upload photos, documents, audio recordings etc. the cost of uploading up to 5MB is £15.00. Typically, 5MB will allow you to upload 50-70 low resolution photos, assuming a typical weight per photo of between 70 and 100 kB. (What are MBs, kBs etc?) It doesn’t matter which chapter headings the photos are added to – you don't have to pay again when you add photos under a new chapter heading.

Remember that a life record which includes photos will be more compelling for your descendants than one which is text-only. If you want to store more, you can upload additional pictures or data at the rate of £10 per 5MB, but bear in mind that when it comes to creating an interesting record for your descendants, less may well be more. 5MB should be more than enough to create a rich record of your life without drowning your descendants in information!

These are one-off charges. They are NOT annual fees.

How do I pay?

When you add image, audio or video files for the first time to your record, once you come to save the record a prompt will ask you to pay via credit card. (Is this secure?) The prompt will also appear if you have exceeded the upload limit which you have previously purchased and need to upload more files. If for any reason you do not want to pay by credit card, or do not have a credit card, you can also pay by cheque. Contact us by email, send us a cheque and we will credit your account. You can then start uploading images etc.
